WEEKLY CLASSES<\/strong><\/h2>\n

All weekly classes take place on Thursday evenings (Venue A<\/a>)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

They are made up of five modules outside school holidays for the Paris area (zone C) and public holidays: September 17 to October 15, November 5 to December 10, January 7 to February 11, March 4 to April 15, May 6 to June 10.<\/p>\n

Please note:<\/strong> on Thursday Dec<\/strong>. 17<\/strong> and Thursday June<\/strong> 17,<\/strong> we celebrate respectively Christmas and the end of the season with dancers of all three levels and their guests. Fee: \u20ac3 \/ person.<\/pre>\n
Classes for each level include items from three sources:\u00a0 <\/span>old dances that were taught from the 16th<\/sup> to the 19th<\/sup> century; traditional dances collected in England in the 20th <\/sup>century; and modern choreographies bringing about a renewal. The aim is to make dancers self-reliant in their practice and in balls.<\/p>\n
Beginners<\/strong>: <\/strong>every week on Thursday from 18:30 to 20:00\u00a0(Venue A<\/a>)<\/strong>. Programme for the year: from the French quadrille to collected longways<\/em>; construction principles of John Playford dances and going over the Autumn programme: hey for four, strip the willow<\/em>, Morris hey<\/em>, double figure<\/em> and reversing the set<\/em>. 5 (Fees<\/a>)<\/p>\n
Intermediary-level dancers: <\/strong>from 20:00 to 21:00 (Venue A<\/a>)<\/strong>\u00a0on alternate weeks, on the following dates: Module 1, <\/strong>September17, October 1 and 15. Module 2: <\/strong>November 5 and 19, December 3. Module 3: <\/strong>January 7 and 21, February 4. Module 4: <\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>March 4 and 18, April 1 and 15. Module 5:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>May 6 and 27, June 10. We\u2019ll cover the following themes: dolphin reel<\/em>, Shetland reel<\/em> and dolphin gypsie<\/em>; turning movements and change of rhythm in a dance; from heys<\/em> to reels<\/em>.(Fees<\/a>)<\/p>\n
Advanced dancers: <\/strong>from 20:00 to 21:30 (Venue A<\/a>)<\/strong>\u00a0on alternate weeks. Same themes as for the intermediary-level class but with half an hour on 18th<\/sup> and early 19th<\/sup> century steps (minuet, gavotte, bourr\u00e9e, pas de courante and Gourdoux-Daux technique). \u00a0<\/span>Module 1: <\/strong>september 24, October 8. MONTHLY HALF-DAY WORKSHOPS<\/strong><\/h2>\n
Intermediary-level PCB(1) <\/sup>(grade 2 dances)\u00a0: 7 half-day workshops \u00a0<\/span>from 10:00 to 12:30 (Venue A<\/a>) on Sundays September 27, November 8, December 13, January 10, February 7, March 7 and May 9 <\/span><\/strong>(in an additional session a few days before the Costume Ball, we\u2019ll go over the programme again; date, time and venue will be determined later).<\/span><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span>These short workshops will be devoted to the dances for the June 6, 2021 Costume Ball and our Autumn and Winter practices: Preston Almain, Staines Morris <\/em>in sets, The Slip, Pageant on the River, Barbarini\u2019s Tambourine, Thady you Gander, Lady Charlotte Campbell\u2019s Waltz, When Laura Smiles.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
All dancers are welcome, whether or not they wish to take part in the Costume Ball. Advanced dancers may also take part if they want to go over the simpler dances. (Fees<\/a>)<\/p>\n

This workshop will be the opportunity to test two of my new choreographies inspired by Thomas Wilson on music by Telemann and including some baroque steps. As a complement we\u2019ll see some suites made of forgotten dances out of John Playford\u2019s first editions, in order to improve our knowledge of this rich and inventive repertoire. For its Costume Ball, Chestnut is happy to be accompanied by musicians playing on period instruments<\/strong>. The event has a dual aspect, both dance performance and ball properly speaking.<\/p>\n
On the one hand, dancers who have learned dances in monthly and\/or intensive preparation workshops are given the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. On the other hand, the programme includes simpler dances in order for all to participate.<\/p>\n
Dress code for dancers preparing the Ball: the 1790-1820 period. People who want to come but have not prepared the dances do not have to observe the dress code but are most welcome to if they like the idea.<\/p>\n
However the programme is not focused only on the Regency<\/em> period. It is made up of 4 parts, each corresponding to moments when figure dances were re-invented according to society changes.<\/p>\n
1 \u2013 In the beginning<\/strong> (16th<\/sup> and 17th\u00a0<\/sup>century dances).<\/h4>\n
2 \u2013\u00a0 <\/span>After the monopoly <\/strong>(18th<\/sup> century dances).<\/h4>\n
